Let the Cobbing Begin!

Aug
07

A car rumbles by. Moments later a plane with it's high buzzing engine, passes overhead. And then the birds. The birds with their myriad of toots, hoots and whistles, sing and greet the morning sun. For that's what it is. Morning time. I turn in bed, eyes open, watching shadows of the tall grasses against the tent wall. They sway in unison, moving to the silent melody of the silent breezes. The sunlight piercing the fabric, filling the tent with a soft warm light. I lie there focusing on the world around me, pushing the cobwebs of sleep out of my mind.

Building Department Inspection

Aug

Yup, as expected the Building Official (BO) came by to have a look-see at our project. I've heard through various peoples that the construction has been causing some interest in the general public of our little town. It was only a matter of time before the building department would come by, and today was the day. Which was fine because I was sure I kept it within the codes minimum requirements. At least I thought so.

Stone Wall Completed!

Aug

Whew! Now that was a puzzle. Every stone had a home, and I had to find each one. There were a couple of rules I had to adhere to, and I learned a few do's and don'ts along the way as well. I couldn't tell you just how much stone we used in the wall, but I can tell you we went out four times to get stones. Of course we never really 'filled' the truck bed when we went out. If we had, we probably could have gotten all our stone in two trips. Stacking the stone took longer than expected (typical for pretty much all types of construction), but I think the timing was necessary.

Blueberry Festival Fun! (part 3)

Aug

Another unforgettable day! Monday started off with with a blueberry pancake breakfast sponsored by the Rotary Club. I wanted to go but I figured I could save a buck by staying home. So Patricia and Phoenix took Dorothy and Aidan with them. Oh man did I miss out. They came back with full bellies boasting that the pancakes were chocked full of blueberries and that seconds and thirds were welcomed. *ugh* That'll teach me to skip out on something like blueberry pancakes. But I was happy that they had a good time and ate well.

Blueberry Festival Fun! (part 2)

Aug

Saturday was spent blowing bubbles, painting, and running around a playground. Phoenix had a blast! Put on by the Sioux Moms Meet-up Group, there were a load of fun things for Phoenix to do. When we got to the park, she didn't know where to start. They had a bubble table, a water table, a huge sheet of paper for painting, and all sorts of playground toys for kids. She was bouncing around them all like a ball in a pinball machine.

So I have to tell ya, this past weekend was a hoot! Last Friday marked the first day of Sioux Lookouts famous Blueberry Festival. A festival we have been looking forward to since we first heard about it last season. From July 29th to August 7, different businesses and organizations in Sioux Lookout host all sorts of functions and gatherings for the festivities. It seems like any hour of the day, there is something going on. But first things first, the opening ceremony.
