Herbs

Herbs. I do not know much about them, but I do want to learn a good solid base of a few that will be beneficial to our home. I read a few books that had some great suggestions and with that my end result was a heart-shaped purple herb garden.

Looks awesome!  What are you planning to grow in it?

Well, initially I wanted Phoenix to have a beautiful "Purple" flower garden, but after much more research I found that my best bet was to grow an "Insect repellent" garden. Amazingly, some of the herbs we love, mosquitos do not. Bonus!  So I grew herbs that insects, especially mosquitoes, do not like.

Do those plants have to be alive to deter insects?  If not I think I'd like to have those sewn into my shirt and shorts from what David has told me about the size and pain of their bites!

Your heart garden is quite lovely. I can't wait to see it when the herbs have grown full.

It was such a great idea!

It just popped into my head. I was thinking more along the lines of a Medicine Wheel, but I am so much happier with the Heart Shape. I really wanted a cute little place when Phoenix could enjoy. She was running around that area quite a bit before we started planting. There was alot of work to do to clean it all up....we actually had to find every rock, which was buried deep in the ground and over grown with weeds. I think the area could do with some more cleaning, but the Herb Garden looks fantastic, so we will leave it at that. We need to work on the cob home, first and foremost. The one thing that I do, when I visit the herb garden  in the mornings is drop the extra coffee grounds into the lower garden, just for extra fertilization. I will eventually get it worked into the ground properly.

I found this website and thought you might be interested in it.  http://www.learn2grow.com/   It looked like it had a lot of good information on gardening.
